Displaying Children's Art

My awesome sister in law gave my daughters those fun little clip boards for their birthdays last years.  They have been so excited to use them...I just needed to figure out where I was going to hang them up at at.  My oldest loves to draw and I found these cute drawings that she had done.  So I saved them for when I would have the energy to make a wall of art.

The little turquoise painted frame my daughter made with my dad a year or so ago.  Then my mom let her pick whatever colors of paint she wanted to paint the frame (I think my mom might have over 100 different little bottles of acrylic paint so I am sure it was a really hard decision for her)

I love the way it turned out, but more importantly both the girls always ask me if they can put their art work up.

PS...I didn't hang the doll.  Promise

Glidder Rocker Update

My mom was here for the weekend, so of course I had to show her the ugly chair my husband got me.  Then one thing led to another and she ended up taking the cushions with her.  Then we spent the Sunday evening with my parents for my dad's birthday and by the next morning my mom had whipped out the cushions.  She really is amazing don't you think!   Now I just need a warm weekend to paint the chair and it will be all ready for when this baby decides to show up!

Product Review: Nitrile Glove

A few weeks ago I was contacted by a company to review their disposable gloves.  Now I don't know about you but I ALWAYS have some gloves handy.  I use them when I am cutting onions, garlic, or spicy peppers.  I use them when I have to clean up an icky mess (as moms this is almost a daily occurrence :)  So I was REALLY excited when they sent me an ENTIRE box to review.  Not just one set of gloves or even 10 but an entire box.

My take on the gloves:  These gloves are really thick.  My long pregnant nails didn't even bust through the (unlike most gloves that I have bought)  They don't have that smell that disposable gloves have either.    I didn't have one negative thing to say about them.

Converting King Flat Sheet to a Queen Fitted Sheet

For the last few months we have been fighting using a king flat sheet on my daughters queen size bed.  Everyday I would have to pull the sheet back to where it belongs.

Finally, the light bulb went off and I thought "why not try to make this sheet into a fitted one"  I took the measurements and figured out it would work!  I needed the sheet to be at least 96x106 inches.  That is planning on 8 inches for the height of the mattress and 7 inches for underneath the mattress.  The sheet measured 102x105.

Also, I could have cut the sheet down to the size that I wanted and gotten a better fit but the time saver/lazy person in me wanted to just use the factory finished edges instead of finishing any edges.
As you can see it doesn't fit perfectly but it didn't cost me anything extra and hopefully (it worked for the first night :) won't have to fight it anymore.

I found a helpful tutorial at Everything Your Momma Made blog on how to make crib sheets that is a really awesome tut.  So check it out before starting

First, I cut a square off of each corner measuring 15x15 inches.  If I were to redo it again I would cut out a piece 15x12 inches.  Hopefully that would help it fit better.

Next, find your first corner.  Fold each corner to each other and sew down it.  Think of it as making your square into a triangle.

Then for each corner I used the skinniest elastic that I have (1/4 inch wide) and 2 feet long.  I sewed it onto the corner.  I just eyeballed where I wanted to start.  The key to this is to stretch your elastic as much as you can while sewing it to the sheet.
then you will get a little stretch going on....
Repeat with each corner and you have in about 15 minutes a new fitted sheet.

Lets just say my daughter was REALLY THRILLED to have sheets that will stay in place.

Rag Half Aprons

Did you know that I also make aprons?  They are really fun and different from the quilts I normally do everyday :)

Here are a couple of my favorites that I have in the shop right now:
