Crockpot Layered Beef Enchiladas Recipe

I love enchiladas but for some reason I don't seem to make them very often.  Today...the wind is blowing and it sounds freezing (even though it is only in the low 40's which is a heat waver for here)   So I really wanted to make something in the crockpot...somehow that thing makes things warmer.

So I am doing enchiladas in the crockpot, but I haven't ever done it before so lets hope that the experiment goes in my favor today!

I finally finished the Ruffled Flower Quilt Set.  This one is a twin size
This one is a toddler bed size

 And so is this one...

These quilts went to 3 little girls that are sharing a room but don't want to share their blankets.  I don't blame them...I am not a fan of sharing either (But don't tell my children :)

How to Make Fabric Covered Buttons

When I was making this flower quilt earlier this week, I needed some fabric covered buttons to finish it off.
So I thought I would share how I make them.  They are so easy to make and then you have whatever color of button you need.

You need some fabric covered buttons.  The bottom part for the button to fit into and the smaller piece that will squish the button down.  They all come in the kit you purchase from the store (joanns or wherever)  I did the 2 inch buttons.  For 2 inch buttons you will need a fabric circle that measures about 4 inches around.
Place the fabric upside down in the base piece.

Squish the button top into there
Squish all the fabric down so that you bottom piece of the button can be placed on top.

Then take your smaller piece of plastic (the blue one for me) and push down onto the button.  You will feel the whole thing seal.
Pop the button out and VOILA!  You now have a fun fabric covered button.

Cheap Cutting Table

I knew when we moved that I needed a table a little taller to cut fabric at.  I also knew that I didn't have much extra money to spend on a nice cutting table.
So when I was at Joann's, I saw some bed risers clearanced out.  They were only a couple of dollars and they have made all the difference.
Now I have a cutting table that is comfortable to stand at for hours up on hours!

The table that I use to cut out on is just a resin 6 ft banquet table.  So the whole cutting table setup cost me less than $30.  Perfect for my budget

Handmade Stuffed Owl Tutorial

For Christmas I wanted my 2 girls to be able to make and give something to the other that they both would love.  For some reason I just can't get myself to give them some money and let them buy them something.  I just want it special I guess.
So, while one sister was away (napping or at school)  I took the other sister and we picked out fabric from my stash and designed these cute little owls.
They were both so excited to make them for each other.  I don't know who was more excited....The girls, my hubby, or me!
I let the younger pick out some extra fabric to make a special one for the baby that won't be here for a few months yet.  Mostly cause I KNOW how they feel about having a family.  We always need a mommy, daddy, and baby at our house :)

And of course since we let the younger one open her present first the older was was REALLY surprised!  It was so much fun.

The girls both loved picking out the best fabric for the other.  They did really good.  They know exactly what color the other one LOVES.

So how did we make them?
1.  Each of the large owls measure about 10 inches tall by 8 inches wide.  The baby is more like 5x4
2.  I free handed an owl shape on some paper before.  That way the 5 yr old could attempt to cut out the fabric by herself.  One way to make this step easier is to just draw 1/2 of the owl and then use the mirror image of it to cut out the other side.  That way you will always have an even owl.  If you don't dare freehand it do a quick google search for owl clipart and print off the one you like the best.
3.  Since this was for a 2 and 5 yr old to make I decided not to add any wings or extra stuff.  Just the bare essentials.
4.  The eyes are oval shapes (1 inch by 3/4 inch) with 1/2 inch middle eye parts.  The nose/beak is about 1 inch wide triangle.  I raw edge appliqued them on (meaning I just pinned them where I wanted them and then sewed around them using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
5.  I used a decorative stitch to sew around the outside edge of the owls AFTER I had sewn on the eyes and nose/beak to the front piece.
 6.  I seem to sew things "backwards" (since I do the rag quilting the most) so I sewed them together with the wrong sides together.  I used a 1/2 inch seam and plan on the edges fraying
7.  Make sure to leave a little opening so that you can stuff the owl.
8.  After stuffing the owl sew up the last little bit and you have a quick little stuffed owl

From start to finish I think each owl took us about a 1/2 hour.  Perfect for short attention spans!

Super Bowl Eats

My husbands family are all avid sports people.  So of course when Superbowl comes around we have to have a HUGE party.
I am ok with it cause I of course love to eat!  So I get to eat to my hearts content and my belly is nice and full!  Making us all 1 big happy family.

So, every year before Superbowl I try to decide on the perfect thing to bring.  Sweet?  Salty?  Hot?  Dip?  Oh the choices!

So to help me on my quest Pinterest came to my help (click on the picture to go to the website).

I am debating between cheesy breadsticks,

a dip (they all look so yummy!),

or popcorn (there is going to be theater buttery popcorn there all ready I am sure).

You can go HERE to see the rest of my pinned board for Superbowl

Any suggestions?
